A highly regarded expert in the field of plant diseases, Dr. Horst established H & I Agritech Inc. in 1992. The company focuses on the research, development and production of environmentally safe products to control plant disease. Dr. Horst is devoted to conducting extensive research on plant diseases caused by viruses and virus-like agents. His research has been published in a number of resources regarding diseases of ornamental plants, including “Compendium of Rose Diseases,” “Compendium of Chrysanthemum Diseases,” and multiple editions of “Westcott’s Plant Disease Handbook.” He is currently working on the ninth edition of “Westcott’s Plant Disease Handbook.”
Dr. Horst earned a Ph.D. in plant science from The Ohio State University in 1963. He remains current in his field through affiliations with several professional organizations, including the American Phytopathological Society, the International Society of Plant Pathology, and the International Society of Horticultural Sciences. Dr. Horst is also respected for his long tenure with Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He joined the Cornell faculty as an assistant professor of plant pathology in 1968. He went on to become an associate professor and full professor before retiring as a professor emeritus of plant pathology in 1998. Dr. Horst retains his reputation as a sought-after speaker at industry conventions and trade shows. He was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding in recognition of his exceptional work.
