For the past 18 years, Juan C. Alejos has been serving as the director of pediatric heart transplantation at the University of California, Los Angeles. Since joining the staff at the university, he has established himself as an integral member of its medical department. An expert in the area of heart transplantation, he is responsible for overseeing the medical care of cardiac patients, as well as children with early-onset heart diseases. With a passion for making a difference, Dr. Alejos finds great satisfaction in knowing that his work helps others live longer, happier and healthier lives.
Following in the footsteps of his father, who was a pediatrician, Dr. Alejos enrolled in medical school after receiving an undergraduate degree. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Doctor of Medicine in 1987. Having always been interested in early-onset cardiovascular diseases in children, he decided to focus on pediatric cardiology. In order to stay current with his industry’s changes and trends, Dr. Alejos actively serves as a member of the American Heart Association, International Pediatric Transplant Association and International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
