“For patients suffering from gastrointestinal disorders and diseases, the daily joy and necessity of eating becomes an uncomfortable experience and their health suffers,” says Dr. Neil Sharma, who works for the Parkview Medical Regional Center as the director of its Digestive Disease and Nutrition division. In his role, he listens to patients and helps to diagnose and treat a number of gastrointestinal-related cancers, including those of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, bile ducts and gallbladder. Additionally, he treats pre-cancerous lesions such as polyps and Barrett’s esophagus by employing new technologies or removing the lesions by endoscopic resection. A pioneer of innovation in this area of medicine, Dr. Sharma has developed new techniques for correcting GI diseases, including those which cause bleeding in the GI tract. In recognition of his excellence, he has earned a number of accolades, including two Patients’ Choice Awards — one in 2010 and one in 2014.
